NASGRASS State of the Union
Since losing our insurance from the Lehigh Acres incident caused our club not to be able to race for almost two seasons, and the 2004 Hurricanes damaged most of the tracks we raced at, NASGRASS has been in a struggle to literally survive. The treasury that we had built up over the years helped with this survival, the loyalty, and committment to NASGRASS by our core members also weighed the scales in our favor. For the last two years we have battled adversity from several fronts to be blessed with the realization of a dream --- the Hendry-LaBelle Mowersports Park! Those that have competed at this track know what a vantastic facility it is! You also know how much work it took to complete this project, and who was responsible for its unbelievable outcome! With the 2008 Swamp Cabbage Festival Invitational event I feel we saw our future secured, the attendance by BOTH of our Founders for the Sunday race was a dream come true! Jim Gebbie AND Ralph Niles watched the event, and stayed to present trophies and talk to our members about the history of OUR club! There were also several of NASGRASS' "old" members at the event, and Charlie Dietrich competed and finished second! We also had several new racers, and had many requests for rulebooks from the spectators! It was a great event overall with Healthy Start Southwest Florida having a profit of over $4,000 for the weekend!!
NASGRASS will continue to mow and grow with events like this showing what we can do! Thanks to all who made this a possibility and a dream come true!
Mow Ya L8R,
Sid Whiteside President NASGRASS Inc.
